Why CBD Oil and MCTs Made it into my Chronic Illness Therapy Arsenal

March 1, 2018

Disclaimer: I am not a physician and this article should not be taken as medical advice. Please speak with a physician or registered nutritionist if you have any questions. The following is my personal experience.

Hello, LupusChicks! So if you happened to catch my Facebook live tonight (you can see a replay here), I discussed some products I use in my arsenal against chronic illness. Many of you write to me on a weekly basis regarding which medication and alternative therapies I use, and I love to share my findings with you. If you have followed me for a while, you know no one medicine or nutrition supplement or diet has cured me, but a variety of multiple traditional and alternative therapies has indeed made me stronger and better able to combat a variety of autoimmune diseases. And this post focuses on two I strongly believe in.

Today, I will quickly give an overview of two of the products I discussed on FB – Superior CBD Oil and Bulletproof XCT Oil. I tried these products from HoneyColony, and was so thankful they partnered with LupusChick. We are holding a giveaway in May for 20 free bottles to 20 LupusChicks (or Lupus dudes). Sign up on our homepage in the Entry Form.

Superior CBD oil is offered through HoneyColony’s sister site, Simply Transformative. There are so many CBD oils on the market, what makes this one different? Well:

  • It doesn’t have a carrier oil that dilutes it
  • It contains 6 incredible Chinese herbs that also help with different body functions
  • And it is the only CBD oil on the market to contain water soluble hydrosomes that increase the bioavailability by 10X

Whatever CBD oil you use, be sure to research how much of it is actually bioavailable – ask the company! You want a product that your body will actually be able to absorb.

Again, to recap, potential health benefits of CBD can include promoting rest and relaxation, support the nervous system, it is an amazing antioxidant, and can promote a healthy inflammatory response.

Ok, now on to one of my other favorite products, Bulletproof XCT oil. We’ve all seen the coconut oil craze these past few years, and with good reasons. The oil contains MCTs which have a slew of health benefits. However, the standard american diet (which is terrible), doesnt typically contain many MCTS. Coconut oil contains about 60 percent MCTs in the form of Lauric Acid, but Bulletproof XCT oil actually extract the MCTS from the oil and offers you a higher concentration. In this product you will find two MCTS, Capric and Caprylic Acid.

MCTS are known for increasing energy and improving mental clarity. They are easily absorbed and after being digested, go to your liver where they are NOT stored as fat but instead are burned as fuel…giving you viola! Energy. I’ve tried many things to help me with energy, and in addition to some heavy duty B complex, MCT oils are also on my list.

How do I use the product? For me, I prefer to add it to my coffee or tea. You can also put it in a smoothie or in your salad dressing. I would start with a little at a time and build up a tolerance or it could make you go to the bathroom (#2)…a  lot. Just a warning! (Your body should adjust over time, just start off small).

Ok, so there is a quick recap of two products I use regularly, one to help me sleep, relax and deal with pain, and the other to help me have consistent energy and help with brain fog.

Again, I am NOT a doctor, so speak with your physician if you have questions, and always do your own research. I am here to answers any questions you may have, and I hope some of the products I share with you can help you in some way!

Until next time, LupusChicks!

Please also ensure your CBD oil is from cannabis and not hemp. Hemp is full of environmental toxins and does not contain many of the terpenes required for true medicinal benefits. CBD derived from hemp does not provide the same benefits as CBD from cannabis, which is similar, but not the same. That is why cannabis has been federally banned but hemp is permitted. Hemp is not the same thing as cannabis.

  3. Marla arndt says:

Hi there! I have been using CBD oil as well as MCT for about 6 months now. I have never felt better! Healthier!
I just had my blood work come back and it is the first time in 5 years since being dx with lupus NEGATIVE!!! I see my rheumy next week and I am excited to hear what she thinks.

    • Marisa Zeppieri says:

That is awesome, Marla! Thank you for sharing <3

    • mo says:

Is there a test for lupus? What is the test called?
My sister says there is a test for rheumatoid factor but nit a lupus test?

      • Marisa Zeppieri says:

Doctors typically seek several blood test answers to confirm a diagnosis of lupus – and they combine these test results with symptoms. The classic lupus tests usually include SED rate, ANA, DSDNA, C3 C4 and C reactive protein tests. There is a newer test, the AVISE CTD test that tests all of these with only one tube of blood! (Instead of many, many tubes!) You can learn more about their test and request a slip for your doctor by going to http://www.exagen.com

  4. Coleen says:

    Hi Genesis,

I am not sure where you got your information from ? It is not correct , Cannabis and CBD can both be toxic if you do not know how it was grown… I have a farm and am growing Hemp for CBD and it is in a green house and organic and clean as well as the extraction process .Both products could have mold or other issues. I worked for a short time in a few grows just to see how clean they were as well as their product. You really need to know where and how your product was grown and extracted … CBD oil has many health benefits . So please do your research before you make a purchase or a statement that is not correct.

    Many Blessings,
    CJ

  5. Bernie Adkins says:

I’m a bit confused about what Genesis said concerning getting Hemp from the Cannibus plant and not the Hemp plant. I’ve been using Hemp Oil for several months with awesome results for my Lupus and RA. I love your blog and appreciate your info. I will look into this company as well as the other product that you use. If you don’t mind to explain to me the difference between getting Hemp Oil from the Hemp plant verses getting it from the Cannibis plant. Thank you so much and God bless you for all you do!!

    • Marisa Zeppieri says:

HI Bernie! I just reached out to the company specifically because I think they will explain it in much better detail than I can. Stay tuned for a reply and thank you for being a part of our LupusChick community XOXO Marisa

  6. Christy says:

I just tried to pre-order the XCT oil and it tells me the promo code “lupuschick” does not exist!

  7. Stari says:

Can you tell us how much and how often you use the CBD oil?

  8. Claudette Hart says:

Is this oil also used for rheumatoid arthritis!,

    • Marisa Zeppieri says:

HI Claudette! There are several people on our FB LupusCHick page who have Lupus, RA and other overlap disease who have had rave reviews on CBD oil. Do some research online and I think you will find a lot of information on people with RA and the use of CBD. 😉 XOXO Marisa

  9. Jodi says:

Will this oil make you fail a drug test?

    • Marisa Zeppieri says:

This is listed at the bottom of the product’s webpage, looks like it could give you a false positive: “Unfortunately, it is possible for hemp oil to result in a positive for THC— much like eating a poppy seed bagel can cause a positive for opiates depending on the type of test. Our products contain .03% THC, well below the federal limit of .3%, but you should use discretion if planning to be tested.”

  10. Amy says:

    Hi All,
I just want to correct a small thing, but an important one. MCTs (mid-chain triglycerides) are not actually digested, but are absorbed via mucosal membranes in your mouth, stomach and intestines. I have been using MCT oils for years because I do not digest fat, so I have to eat a diet with very little fat (15 grams a day), other than MCTs. I have to use MCT to keep fatty acids in my bloodstream so that I can digest protein, because you have to digest fat to digest proteins.

Virgin coconut oil contains between 60-75% MCTs, or you can buy the MCT oil that is 100% MCTs. I cook with both, and use coconut oil like butter in most applications (like on toast). I will eventually. No longer tolerate coconut oil, but for now, these two keep me and my myriad of digestive illnesses functioning. I have three (Cleveland Clinic says four) autoimmune disorders of the digestive system, Crohn’s, autoimmune pancreatitis, and autoimmune gastroparesis.

    • Marisa Zeppieri says:

Thanks for sharing your story and experience with MCTs, Amanda! Very interesting how the MCT oil is helping you with some of the autoimmune effects. Thank you for commenting XOXO Marisa

  11. SickLady says:

That brand is not the only brand to “contain water soluble hydrosomes that increase the bioavailability by 10X.” Another CBD oil that does that as well is linked below, from Dose of Nature.

    http://store.doseofnature.com/FreeStyle-Hemp-Nectar–Water-Soluble–THC-Free-500–1250–2500-mg-_p_68.html

  12. Jason Scott says:

That is great that this product is working for you, I was wondering if these oils have been researched on Arthritic patients. My mother has both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis and cannibus topicals work well however the CBD seems it would be a great fit for her based on what I am being told. Let me know, thank you

    • Marisa Zeppieri says:

HI Jason! I have several friends with RA who are using the product with good results. I would suggest researching a little on CBD and arthritis to learn more. In addition, I have asked the Master Herbalist and Founder of Superior CBD to answer everyone’s questions personally on here, so stay tuned. Last, not sure if you are on our FB, but tonight we kicked off our Lupus Month giveaway, where we will give away 20 bottles of Superior this month. You can enter to win a bottle ($90 value) on our homepage. You will see an entry box in the upper right hand side. Personally, between this product, a medicinal marijuana I vape, juicing and some dietary changes, I have been able to function without any pain medication. I wish I had known about all of this stuff 15 years ago! 😉 Marisa

  13. Bernadette says:

Following, never researched before, interesting post. Will keep this in mind for future reference. I have used valerian root on occasion when desperate to relieve pain and couldn’t sleep.

  14. Vince says:

Do you have any experience with water soluble products? The increased bioavailability seems to help from my personal experience, though I am not using them to treat any serious conditions, just to improve sleep. I’d be interested to hear if someone like yourself where CBD makes a big impact has noticed a significant benefit to the increased bioavailability.
