This is a sponsored post about a Lupus research study from DxTerity that contains links. I am taking part in the study myself and have received compensation in exchange for posting this info.
Several weeks ago, I shared a post regarding The LIFT Study for Lupus from DxTerity. If you missed my original post, you can read it here. If you aren’t familiar with DxTerity, they are a company developing genomics tests to better manage autoimmune disease.
Isn’t this what Lupus patients have been waiting for? Imagine being able to test what is going on with your disease from the convenience of your own home. Cue the heavens opening up and angelic music…
Right now the company is recruiting patients who have been diagnosed with Lupus by a physician for a unique, ground-breaking research study on the disease. With information collected through the study (via a few drops of blood and some health information), researchers are hoping to develop an at-home blood test people living with lupus can use to monitor their disease activity.
The research study is simple. Once I signed up, I answered some quick health-related questionnaires on their website that only took me a few minutes. Next, I received my DxTerity LIFT kit in the mail within a few days of signing up. The kit contains a collection container system that was easy to use and I could do it from the privacy of my own home. Because I am already used to pricking my finger to test my blood sugar, it was an extremely easy collection process. If you have never used a finger prick system, it is simple and relatively painless.
The DxTerity kit comes with a handy instruction card and all of the necessary tools to provide a blood sample – lancets, collection device, band-aids, gauze, alcohol swabs, a biohazard bag, and a pre-posted box for you to drop your sample off in the mail (don’t worry, postage is on them!).
Once you have gathered your blood sample (just a few drops will do), you simply screw the collection tubing closed tightly, drop it into the biohazard bag and place it into the DxTerity shipping box.
(Collection tube has been closed tightly and is ready to ship)
I loved the fact that I could participate in the study from my home and not have to visit an outside clinic. Plus, from the time I opened the kit to the time I dropped it in my mailbox, it was less than 15 minutes.
Did I mention the added perk for Lupus patients? Not only are we helping with research, and will potentially have a way for us to monitor our disease activity from home in the future, but DxTerity will also compensate you $75 or donate it to a Lupus charity of your choice just for being part of the study!
One last thing I thought was interesting about the process for this study (and I have done too many studies to name), was the company’s text message feature when you sign up. Because I forget things easily (thanks, brain fog), it was extremely helpful to have a quick text message letting me know what I needed to do next – either answer a survey, collect my sample, etc.
Now…if we only had text messages to help remind us about every other thing we need to get accomplished in life, lol.
