Kale is a leafy green vegetable that can be used in soups, salads, pasta, and a variety of other foods. Sometimes eating the same vegetables and fruits every day gets to be boring so it is always nice to try something new every once in a while.
Kale is one of those vegetables that not many people have heard of or eat very often. The addition of this in your diet will provide you with many nutritional benefits and will get you a step further to a healthier lifestyle.
This vegetable is similar looking to escarole or broccoli and has many health benefits that include fiber, calcium, and the vitamins A, C, and K. Vitamin A is essential for skin and eye health, Vitamin C is useful for helping keep your bones healthy, and Vitamin K is beneficial for your blood.
Overall, all of these vitamins help your immune system and prevent your body from getting infections. In particular, kale chips are a great snack to have while watching your favorite television show or if you are looking for a healthier option other than those potato chips or Oreos in your cabinet.
This kale chip recipe contains yeast flakes, oil, and garlic salt. Nutritional yeast flakes are a yellow powder that can be found in Whole Foods or your local health food shoppe. The garlic salt, olive oil, and yeast flakes are what give the chips flavor (so add as much of this as you want especially if you do not particularly enjoy the taste of kale) to your chips.
There are many different ways to make kale chips. Cinnamon, cheese, cashews, rosemary, and sea salt are all options to change the way these chips taste. Experiment with your favorite spices and cheeses to find your perfect mixture.
How to make Kale Chips
What you need for this recipe:
- One large bunch kale, tough stems removed.
- Yeast flakes
- Garlic salt
- Cookie sheet
- Olive Oil
- Parchment paper
Directions:
Once you have your bunch of kale, make sure you wash and dry the leaves before laying them down on the cookie sheet. Also, be sure to cut the stems off before placing them on the cookie sheet.
After laying the kale on the cookie sheet (that has the parchment paper on it) sprinkle garlic salt then add the yeast flakes and oil. The yeast flakes, garlic salt, and oil are what really give the chips flavor.
Set the oven to about 250 degrees Fahrenheit and leave the kale chips in there for thirty minutes. When you take them out turn the kale over and sprinkle more yeast flakes over them. Put them back in the oven for another thirty minutes or until they are crisp enough to eat.
With two cookie sheets you can make an entire bowl of kale chips.
There are several different flavors of kale chips sold at Whole Foods such as ranch, cheesy chipotle, and sea salt. However, by making these chips at home you will be paying a fraction of what you would pay at the store. Enjoy!
