If you have followed LupusChick for any amount of time, you are most likely aware that I love to try products that can not only help me physically in some way, but may also help my readers in some way. For those of us with Lupus, pain isn’t uncommon. For me personally, in addition to overall body pain from Lupus, I get added pain in my neck and upper back on almost a daily basis. For years, I tried massage, acupuncture and chiropractic care but truth be told, it was financially draining me and my husband, and the pain was still there.
The bulk of my pain is most likely caused by what I called “Journalist’s Neck,” which basically means as a journalist, I am hunching forward and facing down looking at my computer screen for the majority of my day. A major posture no-no. Also known as Forward Head Posture, it isn’t uncommon for many people in today’s world to actually have this type of neck/shoulder pain because most of us are on some type of electronic device throughout the day. There are times the pain in my neck and shoulders has literally brought me to tears, so when I was asked to try the Posture Pump® Dual Disc Hydrator® Model 1400-D, intended to relieve the exact pain I had, it was a no brainer. Sign me up!
The Posture Pump® helps its user regain his or her normal neck curve, relieving pressure and ultimately pain. If you are someone that deals with headaches, neck pain, or like me, sits at a computer most of the day, this nifty little device (created by a doctor!) may help you the way it has helped me.
In order to use the Posture Pump®, I lay flat on my carpeted area in my bedroom, strap my forehead into the device, and inflate using the attached hand pump. The Posture Pump® is said to “shape, decompress and lubricate” your spine and it does so in just a few minutes. I would typically use the Posture Pump® between 5 – 15 minutes per day depending on my schedule. I noticed an improvement within the first few uses. To me, it was similar to getting an adjustment at my chiropractor, except I didn’t have to leave my home (which is often hard when you have a chronic illness). Appointments scheduled in advance and my body are not good friends, so the Posture Pump® alleviates the hassle of having to travel to the chiropractor several times a week.
Okay, so what if you aren’t a journalist with the creaky neck of a 100-year old and upper back pain? Can the Posture Pump® help you? Well, if you travel for long periods, hold a telephone up to your ear for an extended period of time, play sports, lift heavy objects regularly, or simply just have terrible posture, there is a chance your spinal curvature is not where it should be. Posture Pump® may be able to help, and the best part is, you can use it in the privacy of your own home say with some relaxing music or Netflix on in the background.
I am no stranger to pain, and I discuss it openly on my blog and on LupusChick’s FB. I have drawers of Tiger Balm, Icy Hot, and arnica gel. And while those may temporarily feel good, they aren’t getting to the root of the problem, which is, that my spine is not in its natural state most of the day because I tend to hunch over when I type.
I am truly excited to continue using the Posture Pump® and I believe it will make my life as a journalist easier. And I love my career, so anything that helps me out in that area (and makes my body feel better), gets a thumbs up from me.
