Living With Lupus Nephritis? Learn About a Clinical Trial

April 15, 2026

Marisa Zeppieri

Lupus nephritis and primary membranous nephropathy affect
many aspects of daily life. Pain, swelling, fatigue, and other symptoms can make it hard to start your day or complete even basic tasks at home, work, or school.

Clinical studies evaluating a potential new option for the treatment of patients living with LN or pMN are now underway. You may be eligible to receive up to $9,223 in compensation for your participation in a clinical trial exploring an investigational cell therapy’s impact on a key driver of your “invisible” disease. Nkarta also covers transportation, lodging, meals and childcare for patients and care partners traveling to study sites.

Ntrust-1 is a clinical research study evaluating an investigational cell therapy, called NKX019, to find out how safe it is and how well it may work for adults living with lupus nephritis (LN) or primary membranous nephropathy (pMN).

The purpose of the Ntrust-1 study is to:

  • Determine if NKX019 is safe to use and how well it is tolerated in the body
  • Determine if NKX019 can improve kidney function
  • See if other medications like steroids can be stopped during the study because your LN or pMN is controlled
  • See how the body processes NKX019 by measuring the NKX019 levels in the blood

What is NKX019?

NKX019 is an investigational cell therapy being studied for lupus nephritis (LN) and primary membranous nephropathy (pMN). It is designed to target and eliminate the cells that may trigger harmful antibodies, which attack the body’s own tissues in this condition. Academic studies of a small number of autoimmune patients treated with other cell therapy products have indicated that if these cells can be eliminated, the harmful antibodies that attack the body’s own tissues in LN or pMN may also be eliminated. This could potentially slow or stop progression of the disease.

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Are 18 to 70 years old
  • Have been diagnosed with lupus nephritis or primary membranous nephropathy
  • Have previously received at least 2 therapies for kidney issues

There are additional requirements, which the study team will review with you during your first visit to the clinic.

Compensation: If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will receive NKX019 and health assessments from a team with expertise in caring for people living with lupus or pMN. Costs for travel, lodging, childcare, and meals will be covered when you and your care partner go to the study clinic for required visits. Compensation for you and your care partner may also be available to offset potential barriers.

If you have any questions, you can talk to your healthcare provider about joining the Ntrust-1 study and visit the Nkarta website to complete the questionnaire and find out if you can join: https://ntrust1.com/?utm_source=LupusChick&utm_medium=QR&utm_campaign=PAG
