Sweet Potato Fries & Baked Sweet Potato Recipe

May 23, 2014

Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin B, fiber, beta-carotene, and potassium. Vitamin B is important in breaking down a substance called homocysteine, which contributes to hardening of the arteries and blood vessels in your body.

Sweet potatoes contain almost twice as much fiber compared to other types of potatoes. Beta-carotene or vitamin A is an important antioxidant for your body’s immune system. One medium sweet potato provides your body with the complete recommended daily allowance of vitamin A and then some.  Beta-carotene also helps to protect your skin from sun damage and is an excellent nutrient for eye health.

In addition, sweet potatoes contain high amounts of potassium. Potassium plays an important role in lowering blood pressure by ridding the body of excess sodium.

Essentially, sweet potatoes are good for you despite what other health specialists may think of them.

Consequently, sweet potatoes are delicious and can be a healthy substitute for high sugar and high carb side dishes. Sweet potatoes are mostly oven baked to bring out their natural sweet flavor.

Sometimes people tend to overdo the salt and butter when making sweet potato fries. They might fry their sweet potatoes, which can make them not as healthy as they are intended to be.

One of the natural components of sweet potatoes are anthocyanidins, which give them deep pigments such as orange and purple, and contain antioxidant clotting, wound-healing properties for the immune system.

Sweet potatoes can be seasoned with ghee (a type of butter), ginger, cinnamon, maple syrup, garlic salt, olive oil, or even pepper. They are often made into soups, breads, dips, puddings, and fries.

This recipe for sweet potato fries is rather simple and does not take a lot of effort to make. Sweet potato fries and baked sweet potato make a great side dish to accompany your dinner or lunch. There are only three simple ingredients to add to these sweet potatoes. These ingredients include olive oil, black pepper, and garlic salt.

Sweet Potato Fries Recipe

What you need:

  • Eight to ten sweet potatoes
  • Oven Pan
  • Olive oil/Baking Sheet
  • Black pepper
  • Garlic Salt

Directions:

Wash and peel your eight to ten sweet potatoes (if you want to make them into fries you can use a mandolin to slice them).

Lay your sliced potatoes on a pan and then lightly coat them in olive oil. Then season them by sprinkling black pepper and garlic salt to your taste.

Bake the sweet potato fries at 475 degrees Fahrenheit for thirty minutes.

If you want to bake whole sweet potatoes then you must keep them in the oven for at least an hour at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

After they are out of the oven, let them cool down. Enjoy!
